Is it possible to clean a Y filter with out draining down the pipe? or should they be installed with an isolating valve on either side.

Most do need isolators but there are a very few (expensive) which have their own inbuilt shut-off devices
Also best placed with flow horizontal and the chamber at the bottom to catch the crud and not drop it back into the pipe when it is being cleaned out. Next best vertically downwards with vertically upwards flow being worst.
Thanks All
