worcester 30SI or Baxi Duo tec 33HE A

Going from oil to gas and two quotes received one for worceste 30si and other for Baxi 33 HE. Now I know nothing about gas boilers and wondered if the two were comprable or is one much better than the other. The boiler will go in the airing cupboard in the center of the upstairs with flue out through the flat roof. No other place suitable, so will noise be an issue or will I need to have the cupboard sound proofed? My rads are a mix of 10mm throughout the house and three 15mm rads in upstairs extension 11 rads alltogether.

All info and advice welcome.

I managed an install for someone recently and specified a WB 32 Cdi Compact (the Si range is virtually identical but with some bells and whistles removed). It is a nice little boiler and very quiet. If you have it installed by a WB certified installer you get an extended warranty of, IIRC, 6 years.

I'd say no brainer, fit the WB.

Also, as the cdi compact is pennies more than the Si, have a look at the differences in the features and maybe spring the extra for the Cdi.

As far as soundproofing the cupboard is concerned, you may have an enclosure ventilation requirement that could negate your soundproofing although baffling the vents may get that back. Just make sure they can't be blocked at any time.

We had a Worcester 30CDi installed 2 years ago, following recommendations from this ng and neighbours and would recommend it. It is located in the bungalow's walk-in boiler cupboard which does have block walls and a soundproofing panel on the door. Given this it is, to all intents, completely silent. The warranty on offer at the time was for 7 years.

My bed is the other side of the only block wall of the airing cupboard the other two are stud walls. So will the block wall stop any noise from the boiler. What type of sound does it make my only experience is of my oil boiler which is very noisey.

The quote for the worcester is £500 more, is it worth that much more than the baxi?

So about the same so I need to find out why one is charging me £500 more. The work should be the same a bit of re pipeing making sure high pressure warm water is fine in old pipeing. Maybe he's charging for his reputation.

It has been known for discounting to occur.

There is also the perceived value of Worcester over Baxi and he knows you might bite!

Ask him why?

Is worcester reputation much higher than baxi?

In my case it was familiarity with a particular boiler, meaning he knew how to install it quickly, and I think he had an arrangement with a local supplier that meant the boiler/bits were a bit cheaper.

Over 400 quid sounds steep, though.

The difference may have nothing or everything to do with whats on special offer down at the wholesalers. Personally I would go with the Worcester. Don't let the installer of choice cut corners with cleaning the system prior to fitting the new unit.

It makes a humming sound but I cannot hear the boiler operating when standing within a metre of the block wall. It is worth noting that the boiler is not mounted on the wall in question.
