Worcester 15/19 smoke

Help, following a lot of fault finding i have just changed the oil pump, filters and nozzle on my worcester danesmoor 15/19 oil boiler. All looked good until black smoke started billowing from the flue. Does any one know why this would happen. Does the pump pressure need to be set or do they come pre set? HELP!!!!!

Have you had a recent delivery of fuel? Was it the correct sort (kerosene, gas oil etc)?

The replacement oil pump will be set "somewhere" about 140 psi. Your old one would be set at commissioning but possibly in the region of 115 psi (the boiler label may have a suggested setting) so you have a LOT more oil going in and the air is now insufficient to burn it cleanly. Without a flue gas analyser kit you have very little chance of sorting this out by yourself! A VERY coarse approximation could be achieved by getting hold of the installation manual and setting up close to the settings given. When you have everything else right you can adjust the air shutter so the boiler just doesn't quite make smoke. This will keep you going until you can get someone in to properly set it up. You must also make sure you have replaced the nozzle with like for like in terms of US GPH throughput and spray angle (e.g. 0.65 80H)
