Vodafone

You are supposed to get a PAC code in a few seconds by phoning 191 from your mobile. They managed to run me around for 40 minutes this afternoon. No expressions of regret after 30 years on contract and certainly no offers to reduce their charges to match what they use as a lure on the comparison sites. Currently, my usage is available for £7.00 rather than the £13+ they have just announced.

Any suggestions for a 4g service?

You should be able to get one by texting 65075, there should be one sent within a minute.

What do you use in terms of minutes/texts/data?

Currently Lebara (use Vodafone's network) and Lycamobile (use O2) have deals for 49p per month for the first 6 months, including 3GB of data and unlimited calls/texts, about £5pm after 6 months.

If the Vodafone network coverage is good where you are consider Lebara.

Why not go for a Voda MVNO like Lebara if you're happy with their network. Personally I go for the cheapest network for my usage which is ID (three) and I'm very happy, although Three are the marmite of mobile networks...

This. Don’t phone, just do it all by text next time.

I've been using Lebara for several months and it seems ok, and includes free roaming in EU and a few other countries. The main drawback is that, unlike real Vodafone and most other phone companies, it doesn't allow use on London Underground platforms. I'm not sure whether this will be fixed with the latest TfL gradual rollout of 4g in their tube tunnels.

ASDA mobile also uses the Vodafone network.

Indeed. I went the 191 route thinking they might come up with a cheap offer.

Currently no data but 4Gb would be adequate. 10 minutes/month ish.

Calendar month, not 30 days.

My bundle renews on 1st of the month; a friend on the 27th. And if don't want ASDA to have any of your financial details there is a swipe card available for topping up.

I have donned the dunce's cap.

Don't feel too bad; most companies have 30 day bundles so why would anyone notice the difference unless they thought to look.

When I rang Vodafone seeking a better deal, having been with them a long time, a few years ago the guy was quite apologetic that he couldn't offer me a deal that compared with, or beat, others available to me. I switched to ee on a sim only deal and am still with them having found that I can change the contract pretty much whenever I want, online, regardless of the contracted period. I could probably do better if I took the trouble to call the 'I'm thinking of leaving' department but I'm happy at the moment.

I went through this a few years back. My monthly charge had crept up to £12.00 or so and I asked to transfer to Pay as you go. Half way through the switch I was offered the original deal at £8.00 so chose to stay. That contract has ended.

Curious how many of the £5.00/month sim only deals on the comparison sites morph into £10+ when you start to place an order:-(

The move is on!

Looks like O2. 12 month contract, 10GB plus roaming for £5.00/month. They were a bit sniffy about recognising the PAC number provided by Vodafone but we will see what next week brings. Their 4g connectivity looks similar to Vf. anyway.
