Timed power to a electric towel rail

I have Myson towel rad. It is plumbed into the heating system in such a way that it receives hot water only when the boiler is firing. To provide guaranteed heat in the mornings at the times when the boiler is not firing because the hot water cylinder is at temperature or there is no demand for heating water there is an electric, thermostatically controlled heating element in the rad. I have extended the flex from the element to a plug-in timer in a 13A socket outside the bathroom. Could I replace this with, say, a flex outlet close to the rad in the bathroom and a hardwired external timer outside it? If so what? Or is this a case of KISS and I should leave well alone?

TIA

Richard
