stove, bricking up opening

Nov 07, 2006 1 Replies

My neighbour is putting a squirrel stove in. The plan is to brick up the opening with a four inch pipe straight from the back of the stove through the bricks. Behind the bricks the level of the hearth will be built up to the level of the pipe, with a u shape, so any gunk can be reached through the stove. Other than not being unable to push a brush up the way are there any drawbacks to the plan? The chimney is good.
