Change the syphon for one that overflows into the pan. Block the existing overflow.
That isn't going to last very long.
I'll swap you for one of my foxes.
Snag with that is it could run for ages without being noticed.

Might be. Or maybe it just deters slugs in general, so it mostly works; except on those ones that are much more determined (or adventurous, or tolerant, or hungry, whatever) than most. Slug populations no doubt vary, and so the effectiveness might also.
The vast horde of snails in my garden, for reasons known only to themselves, seem to ignore my tomato plants, despite their ravening attacks on anything else I might try to grow. But there's always a few snails every year that decide to try regardless of whatever it is that discourages the rest.

Nematodes. Apply as per instructions on the pack They eat the slug eggs so may take a couple of seasons to be totally effective. I use copper tape on pots and it seems to work.

It didn't give details of the tape. Some tape is varnished so completely ineffective. Most articles say the width must be 40mm or more to be effective.
That demo used nice shiny new copper tape. Would it work after it's been exposed to the weather for a while and got a green coating?
It does on my bird feeder, in fact it seems to work better when the copper has a green coating __
