Spraying fences

I need to paint/spray some new garden fencework. There's rather a lot of it, so I don't relish the thought of brushing the whole lot - so does anyone have experience of any spray gun applicators? Ideally I'd like one that was manual, 'cos some of the fence is rather a long way from the nearest socket. Would a backpack weedkiller spray be suitable, or would the nozzle just clog up immediately. (I'm only intending to spray with coloured preservative)

Cheers

I used a backpack sprayer with creosote and it worked fine - I doubt that other preservatives will be much different.

Thanks - that's the advice the fencing installer gave too - so off to B&Q then.......except I understand creosote's a nono these days :(

I used a compressor and car paint sprayer to do mine, worked well and got into all the corners joints etc. The only worry with creosote, or the new substitute was breathing it in, next time I would invest in a good mask!

Only for DIY - pros are still allowed to use it, and there won't be a problem if you use the right protective equipment. I did a fence with Wickes Creosote Substitute a while ago and it seems to be a reasonable imitation of the real thing.
