Hi there
I have to replace the door knob on the inside of my back door as it keeps banging into the front of my fridge when fully open. Can anyone recommend a place where I can buy a smaller doorhandle (thumb size perhaps).
Thanks Stephen

Doorstop?
Hi Andy
Good suggestion and something we're already using.
However, if we make the doorstop any bigger the door wont open wide enough.
So basically we need the combination of doorstop and smaller doorhandle. The current doorhandle is like a brass oval shape and sticks out quite far. I thought some kind of handle that could be gripped with thumb and forefinger would suffice.

which case the cupboard fitting section of your local shed should have something suitable: crescent moons or screw-in mushrooms come to mind. I'm sure I've also seen some that recess flush into the door to give you a flat plate you pull on.
For a real DIY approach, you could make a hang down loop from a bit of rope or leather belt, but it may not last too long.

Something like this that is recessed in to the door
Yes, I use the chest handles on some of my cupboard doors but the kitched door has a catch (a mortice?) that i would like to continue to use.
Problem is that you need something that screws to the door to stop evrything rattling around also there is a need for depth to accept the rod that connects to the other side . Could you not change the latch for something like this .
You say that the door keeps hitting the fridge but you are already using a door stop and cannot make it bigger ( and presumably move it outwards) as it would prevent the door opening sufficiently .
I'm trying to picture this but I take it from this that the fridge projects out quite a bit .

Hi Stuart
Apologies for the delay in replying. Thanks for your help on this.
Do you think something like this would do?
Thanks
Stephen
