I'd just tape over the holes with a few layers of aluminium tape, should be good for another 20-30 years.

I can imagine that lasting 20-30 minutes. Unless you have a very specialist type of ali tape in mind.
If the OP goes the patch-it route, the things needs cleaning out properly whatevers used. If its copper it could even be soldered in principle, but would most likely be far too corroded for that to work. I'd look at epoxy for a long life lining.
