Sealant - Again

Sorry to ask - thought i'd give it one more try!

What do the experts recommend as a width for sealant around a bath. I've been putting this job off for weeks now as the last time attempted it, it looked as Stevie Wonder had put the Silicone down.

How wide should the gap be between the two bits of masking tape (thank for the tip on an earlier post)???. I cant delay any longer, 'e indoors wants to know why we still cant use the bath.......I'd b really grateful for more expert advice - my wet finger has a date wit some silicone and I cant delay any more! Thanks Ale

The last time I did this, in the kitchen, I applied the silicone as best I could, then moulded it into place with a piece of 15mm copper pipe, leaving the two trails of surplus in place until it set, then pealing them off. Looks better than I have ever managed before.

I have the bath to do next, except I'll probably use 22mm for that, since the gap is wider.

Just re-done my shower tray and as well as using yea olde masking tape method I used a Plasplugs £2 silicone sealant scraper from B&Q. Note you push it along scooping up the execess sealant as it goes. Best silicone I have done years.

I realised only yesterday that according to the packaging on the backof my screwfix sourced silicon that you are meant to push the silicon gun away from you when applying it... not pull it towards you like i do!! I dare say that it wouldnt make too much of a difference if you are masking / fingering it afterwards.
