It's quicker and easier with my tool. A bit of spare steel angle that I had to hand and a few minutes with a welder, made a simple tool that can neatly fit over or under the car and measure wheel rim to wheel rim at both front and rear of the wheels, at bearing height. Measuring what would be a straight line through both bodywork and engine. The difference is measured in mm (1.5mm per turn for the screw-thread).

For the kit car, it is even easier, as it is supposed to have 0 toe - so I just have to make sure that the handle on the measuring screw is in the same position on both measurements.

No need to support strings at front and back of car, just position, turn, release, move to other side of bearing and repeat - all by myself, without having to measure anything or even move from sitting on the floor, in the one spot.
