Question for our Dave

London ULEZ zone. Is there a way of finding out if your vehicle has

*gone over the line* without waiting for the penalty claim?

My daughter drove our Fiesta from Kings Cross to the Tram Shed restaurant in Shoreditch. Both outside the zone but I am not sure of her route! When we arrived, she asked if it was a diesel!

I have signed up ready to pay but found nothing online to say it is outstanding. I have until Monday evening to settle.

Are you saying it has definitely raised a penalty, or not then?

Normally, people say they have been very efficient at signage which will take you inside. Brian

Unknown.

I was sat in the back and not paying attention.

I got caught once by simply driving round a block off the Euston road and stung for the congestion charge:-(

How about making a query here?

FWIW I very much doubt it. Letting people know if they had been picked up would lose revenue from those who pay when the ANPR cameras failed to pick them up. Not done with the CC zone or the few other tolls I know.

It'd be a bit odd for her to go via the ULEZ as it'd mean a turning right off the main road but I've no idea if there was congestion, if she was guided by GPS or local knowledge or just road signs, if she knew there were dragons to the South,.... Worth asking her to repeat her journey in Streetview??

Yes. Have I trespassed is not one of the options:-(

Umm. That seems rather sharp practice and surprising if it has not been appealed. I take your point about lost revenue.

Hmm.. I drove back and haven't a clue of the route. Passenger directing with i phone navigation. I mistakenly believed the ban did not apply on Sundays:-(

I have mailed asking them to check their records but don't hold much hope from the above.

IIRC there's a data protection argument: if they let people check if [reg number] was in the zone yesterday then people could check if partners had been lying about where they went etc. I've no idea if that stands up but I can see that there's no easy way to establish if the question comes from the driver (who ain't necessarily the registered keeper).

Hmm.. The sign up requirements are pretty stiff but I see what you mean about data security.

Similar mild annoyance that Swansea will not identify the owner of an illegally parked vehicle to the obstructed landowner.

Sorry, can't help. I could count the number of times I've paid the CC on the fingers of one hand, and never recently.

However I think Googling will find if a particular model is exempt or not by age.

I got caught once giving a disabled friend a lift home. He has a parking pass he could use for my car, but not the CC area. Not being a driver, I doubt he understood it any better than me.

CC != ULEZ

Sadly the ULEZ site tells me it is not exempt. Pretty good for its age though, I think Euro 5.

If they haven't come back by this evening, I think I'll pay up and not take the risk:-(

Were the driver or passengers carrying a mobile phone with location tracking enabled? Might end up being too coarse co-ordinates though ...

Yes. Both ways. Apparently you can use a system *WAZE* to warn of a wrong turn. My phone does text and calls only!

I suppose you've coughed-up by now anyway, but I meant to see if the history told you what route had been taken.

The i phone users expressed confidence that the entry points are

*guarded* by big notices so I decided to accept the risk!

I can always get a refund from their anticipated birthday presents:-)

If it's like the CC, all too easy to miss the signs. And I'm used to driving in London.

AIUI, Swansea does not record the owner - just the keeper.

(Yes, your argument is much the same. But issues like HP or contract vehicles could raise more issues.)
