Problem with Fridge Freezer

A friend has an old (approx 12 years) fridge freezer (Philips ARB822) with the following problem(s)

- freezer only gets as cold as the fridge part

- fridge compartment has quite a bit of frost/ice on the walls

He's tried defrosting it but the ice re-formed in the fridge and the freezer still didn't freeze.

How do you go about diagnosing the problem? Are the fridge and freezer cooled by the same circuit and compressor? Are there any good sources of info. on the web? Can anyone recommend a repairer in the Stockport area?

Thanks for any info. Cheers PJ

Check this out with an archive search (google groups advanced search) This subject is done to to death every few months.

Main thing to note is that Fridge freezers with one compressor need to be used in a warm environment. An empty unheated house in winter or a garage is not the place to use these designs as they will fail to work properly.
