Possibly dangerous wiring

========================================== Thanks for the suggestion but no luck.

I did check as they do sell cut lengths of many things but not this particular item. No local branch either as we're in the frozen-out North here in the Midlands. There are several good wholesalers and retailers locally here but Screwfix is so convenient when they have what one needs.

It's a bodge It's dangerous Now that you know this it's your duty to fix it so that its either on the upstairs or the downstairs circuit, not bridging them.

I'll post you 3m if you can wait for it to arrive. I am 99% sure I have some leftovers in the van.

========================================== Thanks for that generous offer but I really am quite happy to buy locally as I'm sure that any surplus will eventually be used even if it's not for its original purpose. I seem to specialise in being the person people come to for the odds and ends they can't be bothered to buy for themselves.

========================================= Thanks for confirming the opinions of other posters and I shall certainly be fixing it permanently following their advice. For the time being it's safe because it's disconnected and will remain so until properly fixed.

========================================= As recommended by an earlier respondent.

Actually, I will probably use black to harmonise with the existing red / black wiring. In any case, I will mark it locally to indicate its purpose if that seems necessary. The consumer unit installed by myself about two years ago and formally inspected by the Council already has a proper advisory label warning of the presence of mixed colours so I think I've taken adequate precautions to warn the unwary.
