More or less since first installed, the pop up waste in my wife's bathroom bidet has been a nuisance: sticking shut. Usually freed off by vigorous use of the rubber suction stick left over from my Ford engine valve regrind days!
The plunger itself moves freely once released. I know I can unscrew the operator and fit a replacement but do these things have adjustments and how likely is my local plumbing outlet to stock a match?
We had one when we moved into the bungalow, the type operated by a push rod on the tap. It was a PITA a gland at the point the rods entered the waste constantly loosened and it would not work. In the bathroom refurb we decided on one of the flip type based on observing them at my daughter’s house. Surprisingly it works very well considering it is just a metal disk sitting in the waste outlet body with no special seals that I can see and if the sink is filled I cannot detect any leakage. I must admit I have not left a filled sink over a long period of time but the sink stays full well after a face wash and wet shave.
We had two of those at the farmhouse. No issues.
The one we are struggling with is the *push cap* to release type.
We had one of those fail in a new bathroom. I took it apart, lubricated it, reassembled it - and it still stuck. So I spent 2 or 3 £s and replaced it. That was a few years ago, and the new one is still working properly.
(I've just jinxed it, haven't I?)
Is the sealing O ring the correct way up? On mine the sealing O ring has a wider and flatter top diameter and when I replaced mine and installed it with this wider bit at the bottom the waste had the tendency to stick shut. Fitting with the wider bit towards the top and the problem went away.

We have had one in our bathroom for the last 7 years and another in our second toilet for 15 years. Both are still working fine.
Umm. I'll have a look tomorrow. Once opened, it unscrews easily enough.
I tried reversing the sealing ring. No noticeable difference.
Unit removed, descaled, greased and refitted. Works ok currently.
Scale a bit surprising as both water supplies are soft. 4 years use.
Now I know removal is easy, a trip to a decent plumbing outlet on recurrence
