Plumbing / soldering question

There's a joke there somewhere about tight Yorkshiremen, but it's probably not worth making :-|

If you're doing a full house re-plumb in copper it's going to cost so much more in time as well as materials than using plastic that scrimping a few quid on using end-feed is firmly in the mote-and-beam department.

The interesting point is that I find end feed 100% reliable. The only occasional joint failure I have had (with a soldered fitting) is on a yorkshire. Usually down to a pinhole in the metalwork, or an incomplete solder ring. The yorkies are also a bit bigger and have a higher heat capacity - so take slightly longer to solder.

Generally speaking I keep a collection of mostly end feed in the bits box with a handful of solder ring for use in places where you can only get one arm in at a time!

I have tried cuprofit (which if you buy a bag at Wickes are not too bad price wise (compared to other push fit ranges)). They are only for use on copper pipe, but seem to work well and look much neater. I needed a slim pushfit joint once on a live wet pipe - and they did the job.
