Plaster types: Undercoat and Bonding

This is the information regards plaster types and uses/installation from British Gypsum

PS According to BG both Bonding & Hardwall are referred to as undercoat plasters.

Here is a more easily digested description of various plasters although I think it is a bit outdated ie. I have used Browning in the past but have not seen it available for years and British Gypsum do not list it on their site.

Bonding *is* an undercoat plaster (as is browning). It is still widely available IME.

Bonding is intended for use on low suction surfaces like dense blocks, engineering brick, or surfaces sealed with something like paint etc. It is also popular as a general "sticks like ... to a blanket" material for all kinds of applications.

Browning (aka "hardwall") is also an undercoat plaster but intended for traditional medium or high suction backgrounds like light weight blocks, common brick etc.

Yes, I understand that - I should have been clearer by putting "undercoat plaster" in quotes. My question was prompted by the BM's comments, the fact that the BG bag is simply labelled "undercoat plaster", and being unable to find anything that explains the difference (if there is any) between this and "bonding". Reading the data sheet I get the impression it is only a patching product such as cable chases and other minor damage so if that is all you need it for then go for it. The fact that it is sold in such small quantities eg.
