Pilot light keeps going out (2023 Update)

I've got an old Gloworm boiler, and the pilot light keeps going out. Originally, it took literally 5 minutes holding in the pilot button before it would light. I've changed the thermocouple, and now it lights quicker, and stays lit longer, but it still goes out once a day or so.

Could it just be that the thermocouple needs it's position adjusting (it's one of the universal ones that holds in place with a double threaded nut thing), or do I need a corgi?

It could be dirt in the pilot jet, so the flame isn't the right shape and it isn't playing on the thermocouple. How long since the boiler was cleaned? This is extremely important if the boiler is an open flued appliance.

I have no idea - I moved in about 3 months ago, and it started playing up a few weeks ago. Replacing the thermocouple means I now only need to hold the pilot for the 15 seconds suggested in the instructions, as apposed to a couple of minutes (and a few 'percussional realignments') and it does seem to stay in for longer, but still dies out eventually.

The old thermocouple was positioned so that the top was about 2mm above the pilot light outlet, which is the same place I've positioned it's replacement. Does that sound about right?

Then you need to get it serviced, as you've no idea what state it's in.

The servicing instructions should detail this. You should have been left them. You might be able to get a copy from the manufacturer if not.

I have an old Glow worm and unless the thermo-couple is touching the flame, the slightest draught will pull it away. They last years anyway and cost a few quid.
