Painting on different coloured plaster?

Hello. I have jusy recently bought a house which I am refurbing at the moment. After stripping off the old wallpaper (with the intension of painting them) the walls have a slight different colour on the top 3/4 of the room then the bottom. (Think the previous owner had some work done to the house)

I was told them painting on them directly would give me an slight uneven texture on the painted walls (even with 2 x undercoats) and lining the walls first would be the way to go. Id this right? Is there any other way? Would applying 2 undercoast not suffice? Seems lining the walls with paper first seems a lot of hassle!

It depends on how well the new plaster was blended into the old - it

*is* very hard to get an absolutely invisible join when replastering only part of a wall. The colour of the plaster won't matter as long as your pait is covering completely, but you may see the join between old and new. Easy way to find outis to paint a bit and see.

If you are not happy with the painted finish, then you have two choices really. Lining paper, or reskimming the whole wall. The latter sounds quite drastic, but you may be able to make other worhtwhile changes at the time. For example if the outside walls are solid and not well insualated you could line them with celotex or similar insulation board, and then dryline with plaster board inside of that. Nett result, much better insulation, and nice smooth walls into the bargain.
