Oven Cleaning (avoidance)

Also the shelf supports - light cover and door seal need a good clean - but these bits can go in the dishwasher.

Best if you can find a suitable item (e.g. a baking tray with small upturned edge) that fits the bottom of the oven. Most of the crap ends up in that - only a little makes its way underneath.

in my case, the bottom has an element under it - so I guess covering it could tend to overheat the element.

Indeed - we don't have that issue and I failed to take it into account.

I suspect the best precaution is to put a baking sheet under everything that is put in the oven either directly or on the shelf below to catch any spills. The sheet should be easier to clean by soaking overnight if spills get burnt on.

You can heavier duty versions of the teflon baking sheets to line the base of the oven. Just take it out and it is easily washed

Crap design anything that gets down there gets seriously burnt on and not beinga catalytic surface is a PITA to clean.

Ours is like that as well, we have a thin baking tray in the bottom of the oven. We haven't had any trouble with elements but the the oven doesn't get a lot of use. Bread occasionally, pizzas otherwise.
