OT: Unthinking greens on the greens

Seems as if some climate activists think they have scored a victory by filling the holes with cement on the greens on courses in France:

Typical of "green" thinkers is how little they have thought this action through.

Would you have heard about their cause if they hadn't done that?

Typical of journos to not know the difference between cement and concrete. It must have been some sort of quick setting concrete; probably Postcrete. Or maybe the greenys thought you just mix cement and water!

Everybody in the world has been hearing about their cause for decades.

This little publicity stunt won't have changed that, and certainly won't help them get their own way. Every bit of harm caused to people who are not involved in national policy-making trims a few people off their list of supporters.

that's how it was first used, it was used as a render that looked like portland stone. But wasn't very durable without sand.

Would they have thought how often new holes are postioned on the greens on a daily basis using a special tool the greenkeepers have at their disposal?

So within minutes new holes, which would have been done anyway, will be prepared and all they have done is waste a CO2 intense product to try and make a green statement.

Eh?

We've all heard about their "cause".

They don't have a right to be listened to, any more than any other protestors.

That's all greens ever do.

Hardly, given that this particular protest was specifically about water being wasted on leisure activities while many villages were short of drinking water.

Do I care about their cause, now that they have?

The locals likely do given that the golf courses have an exemption from the water restrictions when some villages are short of water.

The locals could no doubt act legally and pressure the local authorities to shut the courses which would have a far more meaningful effect on conserving precious water supplies.

It is very far from clear that pressuring the local authorities would have any effect.

But that is true of filling the holes with concrete will either.

They're not greens though.

They're anarchists looking for an excuse.

Everything they do, involves the destruction of other peoples property.

Cement is one of the most carbon releasing things you can make, from what I can tell. Brian

Sure, but they aren't using much of it to fill the green holes with cement when protesting about the golf courses being exempt from wasting water.
