OT: Flat panel TV's

I'll be keeping my old analogue sets until they die - one has a set-top box, the other I use as a display for a knitting machine programming device.

Much easier and less hassle to take them to the tip - even if it means carrying them on foot - if my experience of the London freecycle group is anything to go by.

FreeView boxes are as cheap as chips - and you can even get some with an RF output for sets without a SCART, etc. Certainly a cheaper option than a new FreeView TV - most of the cheap TVs in the supermarkets etc don't have FreeView tuners built in.

There will still be plenty of people wanting another telly for the cost of a FreeView box.

You're experiences are obviously less favourable than mine. I've got rid of lots of cr*p via that group. ;-)

And have you seen the prices shops charge for whitening systems? When you can buy a whole tub of vanish oxy action in the laundry aisle. It tastes nasty, but does the same job. *Don't swallow it*

For location shooting of high quality video that's exactly what is used. There are high quality small monitors specifically for this purpose. The viewing distance thing is used to be to prevent seeing the line structure. With interpolation not so important.
