The plumber installed a new toilet this week. You really have to crank the handle to get it to flush, seems like when you get a split diaphragm, but the plumber says there's nothing wrong with it and they just have a bedding in period. True or bollocks?

As soon as plumbers start talking about "settling down" or "bedding-in", it usually spells trouble. Does it flush ok if you lift the arm from inside the cistern? Maybe the link from the handle to the siphon isn't properly aligned or something
The latter.
How can he ever know that it will bed in? He should have checked that it does work properly - as an intrinsic part of the installation.
Bollocks I am afraid.
Bollocks again. He must be too thick to understand how they work.
Water level far too low maybe?
Split siphon moulding?
Lost movement in mechanism?
(Surprised he fitted a siphon - the button ones seem almost universal now!)
Being a toilet, I suppose the Bathtub Curve won't apply ;-)
Bollocks.

Tell him you'll pay him for the work once it's "bedded in" to your satisfaction!

True or bollocks?
Sounds like a L.O.B to me.
Yeeeucchh!!!
As this is a DIY group I would suggest you remove the lid and inspect to see how incompetent the plumber was - or if it something so trivial - like a screw on the lever arm having worked loose.
But the pan is also a suitable shape for the curve. 8-)
Clue. The coprrect answer has something to do with testicles.
Mary Fisher coughed up some electrons that declared:
Ow, my ears
Such language from a *lady*... And I though northern lasses were brought up "proper" unlike all the southern chavs
;->
"However, at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on 24 November 1977, defending Queen's Counsel John Mortimer produced expert witnesses who were able to demonstrate that the word "bollocks" was actually a legitimate Old English term originally used to refer to a priest, and which, in the context of the title, meant "nonsense".

So what are you saying, Adam is going to get excommunicated ?
I went to Nottingham for a law conference a few years ago. And I made a pilgrimage to that court with a few other people. The Italian lawyer I was with couldn't understand what the group found so fascinating about the place.
I suppose that that's one way to describe it.

even has his name on the side...
Was he the lawyer who set up Powergen's Italian subsidiary?
Heh, I emailed him the link at the time. He didn't find it amusing.
