Multiple on and off per day - security light - which type of bulb?

Clamped to the DIN rail in my CU (plastic case).

And yes, the low voltage output is connected using mains-rated double insulated flex inside the box. :-).

The only battery leaks I have had were from Tesco batteries. None of the no-name batteries supplied with remote controls have ever leaked.

I might forget the idea of an illuminated PB and revert to batteries. Possibly a set of Lithium AA' (on special offer in Sainsburys, 'only' £4.66 and fit inside D cell holders. I get very few visitors, and how much current do you need to activate a simple coil of wire ?.

The Jehovah's witnesses can flatten a door bell battery on a Sunday morning if you don't have an air gun.

Does your PIR light switch using a relay or electronically?

Ours is relay switched and has had the same tungsten 60W bulb for the last 3 years...

LEDs should be ok with a relay switched unit*, but some electronically switched ones may not like the low load of an LED lamp.

*Some older LED lamps didn't like too many on/off cycles, not seen it mentioned with the modern ones.

I just tell them that I work for the Blood Transfusion Service and they generally look horified and shove off.

If they try and remonstrate, I have some NBS blood donor sign-up cards that I offer to them.

Do they actually have a problem with blood *donating*? Weirdly, they're absolutely fine with receiving a donor kidney. Not mentioned in the bible apparently.

Can't be rude - they seem nice people - I just say that I respect their beliefs and that I have mine - Let's leave it at that.

Usually I notice a mile off when a minibus drops a load of them and they split into pairs, I could pretend to be out, but I'll usually answer the door with a smile, but get in fairly quickly that I don't want to discuss religion on the doorstep, they usually offer a watchtower or whatever and toddle off, and I head for the recycling bin ...

I've previously used nail varnish or a drop of paint to prevent the laminations rattling against each other and to stop the humming.

Do Kodak actually make any batteries or has the brand name been sold off to badge any old crap that originates from the far east?

Informed customers would be buying from elsewhere rather than from the expensive toys for boys retailer that Maplin have morphed into.

I haven't followed this thread, but I assume someone has a humming transformer that irritates/keeps them awake?

I solved this problem with my bathroom razor point by flooding the transformer with superglue.

A few years ago we had a house with a hedge about 50 yards long - outside of a corner plot in an estate - which I was weeding when they came by.

I got all the couch grass out of the entire hedge while we were talking

- I would normally have got bored before finishing - and recommended a book they might like to read. The Blind Watchmaker.

Never saw them again...
