I used to play back row forward and can tell you stretching this fabric by a further 6" across 5'6" is not going to happen.
The current plan is to find some matching fabric and *let in* an 8" strip.

It's surely not cotton then, for that responds well to the stretch treatment.
Alternately, wash the furniture and hope it shrinks by the same amount.
