Lidl Sealant Gun

Just bought a sealant gun, currently on offer at Lidl. The barrel part is a complete cylinder rather than just a frame. It appears to have two modes of operation.

In the first mode, it takes a 'normal' sealant cartridge (although I don't think it's long enough for the likes of Gripfill.

In the other mode, you fit one of the supplied nozzles and the large 'piston' washer, and presumably fill the cylinder with something or other. The illustration shows it being filled with something which looks like a black pudding, tied at both ends! Anyone know what its *actual* intended use is? The piston washer has what appears to be an intentional radial cut, so it presumably doesn't form a complete seal? Has anyone put any loose material in one and, if so, with what result?
