Don't buy any. Products like this give LEDs a bad name. They will be rubbish. I work in the industry and LED replacement bulbs are a pile of trash.

I've been getting variety of this type of bulb (all LED GU10 form) to try for the local energy demonstration trailer. So far the results have not been terribly impressive. The light is very much towards the blue end of the spectrum and the beam is quite narrow. The combination of an odd spectrum and narrow beam make them a poor choice for most places GU10 lights are found.

For corridors or landings (or anywhere else the light is on for a long time and area illumination is required) lit by GU10 the new Megaman miniature fluorescents are quite good giving a reasonable colour temperature and diffuse light.

However the fittings have to have sufficient clearance behind and an unmounted bulb connector to take them as they are a bit longer than standard bulbs. As they are less directional than standard GU10's they probably wouldn't work as well if you were using the directional properties of the lamp. They also have a quite marked warm-up time. Watt for Watt the Megaman bulbs have been considerably brighter than any other similar CFL's I've tried so far.

You couldn't buy the LEDs for that price...

Well, I don't know what a GU10 light is so I'm not much the wiser on that :-)

I do know about the blue end of the spectrum and narrow beam. We use a wind-up LED lamp in the caravan awning and some solar powered smaller ones, they've been more than adequate for background lighting. He's going to think of a use for these I know and I wanted to be prepared :-)

I appreciate your full reply,

Likely to produce a pretty nasty coloured light compared to tungsten. And probably compared to good CFLs too. Nothing like the same light output for a given physical size either. Efficiency OK - but not anything special.

That's what I suspected, the same is true of a lot of items from Lidl and Aldi ...

Depends on what you're wanting to do with it. I've persuaded SWMBO to let me replace all the GU10 in the bathroom light fitting with "white" LEDs, and we find that the "blue white" light that we get is vert nice with the white tiles with blue accents and suite. Net replacement of

200W of space heating with about a dozen W of lighting. Horses/ courses.

I'll have to get the little darling to head down to Lidl next week some time. Worth getting a pack at that price. Plus we need salami, cherries .. definitely time for a visit to Lidl anyway.

The E14 and E27 fittings appear to be what most place I've looked describe as "SES" and "MES" fittings. Looks like the same basic lamp in a number of different fittings ... including the ones we use in our bedroom. I'll see if I can get the daughter to go along during the week.
