island unit gas / electicity with solid floor

What is the usual method of getting gas and electicity to an island unit in a kitchen (apart from hanging from ceiling !) ? Simon.

The only option seems to be to use a grinder to cut out a channel and feed it along the floor. Use plastic coated pipe and wrap all joints after soundness testing.

But don't fill in the channel; cap it with a removable, flush, plywood lid so you can access the services afterwards. I've seen pictures of plastic channelling made for this purpose, but have never found a supplier myself.
