Intumescent timber paint needed

Does anyone know where I can buy Intumescent paint for timber 'over the counter'?

I have emailed nullifire (one of the main suppliers), but they say they only deal with contractors and the like, also their minimum tin is 20 litres, I need about 1 !!

Why do you want paint like that for timber? It's a fire resister for metal.

What's it for? Timber is naturally intumescent in large pieces anyway. You could screw plasterboard to it to improve it further.

I need to fireproof the timber rails that a projection box window is secured to.

The alternative I suppose is to use steel rails for the side rails, but timber is so easy to use I would prefer to use it.

You're looking for something like this?

do varnish and paints that are flame resistant, or retardant, but you can't call it intumescent exactly. Does it really have to expand when it's heated?

it does not 'have ' to be intumescent, but that was the first thing that occurred to me, the sealant supplied with the window was intumescent, and when I saw that intum. paint was made, I started looking for that.

also for timber, its used in a lot of commercial situations, a good idea is to paint your door jams with it at home, if there is a fire it swells up and prevents smoke getting into the room giving you more time to escape/be rescued

Assuming you can open the door? ;-)

I think by the time the mating surfaces of the door and frame were hot enough to expand the paint you probably wouldn't want to open it anyway.
