Methinks not.
They concentrate more light on the cell (mirrors?) then before it gets too hot they move it into darkness.
GC,
why not trickle water over the face of the cells. It's clear, so won't affect the light; it's a good IR block; and you get free hot water...
Andy
Hmmm.... food for thought, that. A sheet of glass on top of the cells with a water film down over it. With some of the IR removed, the remaining light will do the job, but will it reduce efficiency all that much and what about a mini-greehouse effect under the glass, which might raise the cell temp again. I think it's worth a try and small arrays are dirt cheap.
It was rather telling that, if you go to the supplier's site, it is clear that the product is still at prototype stage.
Their FAQ includes this interesting response
want the same mobile phone you could buy a decade ago. The important number is your Levelized Cost of Energy ? what is the price per kilowatt hour including all costs? At V3, our focus is lowering that number. With that said, all of the components within the Spin Cells have proven commercial applications of over 30 years. The Spin Cell includes PV, power electronics, and electromagnets combined in a way that has never been done before. The Spin Cell is designed for new systemic retrofits that will increase energy production and efficiency. Cutting edge, with no bleeding edge. We think many of our customers will want to upgrade their energy production as we develop more breakthroughs, and we plan to create a trade in program where older models can go to developing markets. Of course customers will always have the option to enjoy the long-life of our reliable products. Some people like to get a new car every three years. Others love to keep driving the classics.
