induction hardening

Is it feasible to make a DIY induction hardener running of domestic power point? Something that heats up the very tip of the edge as it is drawn through and immediately quenched by the mass of steel in the rest of the blade?

Search on banggood.com - they are selling a small induction heater kit very cheaply that will heat small stuff

Here you are - done it for you:

Thanks, and Adam, so it is doable but I suppose there would be a knack in passing the edge through slow enough to get hot but fast enough that the heat was quenched by the steel mass behind.

Looks interesting. But what's the advantage over a gas flame?

Safety can`t reach some places under a vehicle safely with a gas flame...

Can heat a nut without neccesarily melting the rubbber bush bolt goes through, Localised heating makes it more likely to release the seized item andd large coils are revelation of wheel bearings apparently.

Expensive to buy and expensive to run though.
