Impulse buy - 20sq m of Homebase turf

Just cleared out a flower bed which was full of large shrubs and blocking out a lot of light. Getting the bay tree stump out nearly killed me.

We were going to replace it with MOT as a temporary measure until we have finished clearing away all the stuff we don't want (including the garage) and lay out our new garden.

Both team members were sitting in the sun contemplating when we both thought "why don't we just put turf down".

Quick Google suggests £2.25 to £3.50 per sq. meter for turf.

Nip round to Homebase and they have some turf at half price - £1.50 sq metre. Now have 20 rolls in the trailer and a target to get the ground levelled and the turf laid before the evening rain.

Yes - I know that this isn't the way to lay a nice flat lawn but the rest of the lawn is so not level it is like a ploughed field and this is only for a year until we get sorted.

Even got another discount for buying 3 rolls - so problem potentially solved for just over £28 for 20 sq metres which is a lot cheaper than some bags of MOT.

Of to do some frantic levelling followed by cursing as it rains earlier than expected.

Cheers

i'm planning to get fresh cut turf from a local turf farm for £1.50 a square yard, it's the mix of rye grass and fenz and benz (or however you spell it) as we have a dog that likes to tear arse around posher stuff wont last long, they do the higher quality stuff with no rye in it for £1.80 a yard, that inc vat and delivered, and best of all, it's cut on order, so is as fresh as can be.
