How to identify a metric thread?

Well for all those who've been losing sleep over this, it turned out they were M5. Got sorted out at my wonderful local inductrial fastenings place today, where I was served by a gent in a brown shopkeeper's coat, who counted them out on the countertop singly for me. Fabulous.

Well, actually he was wearing was a blue jacket.

They probably would have been if you had wanted 20,000 identical bolts. Most specialist suppliers don't want passing trade buying in small quantities and try to discourage it by high pricing on small orders. I've done that myself, with a product that someone kept badgering me to quote for. I worked out a commercial price, doubled it and added a bit, so that it was worth doing when they, to my surprise, did order one.

There's an amazing place in the middle of a council housing estate in Merton that you'd never see from a main road, etc, or expect to be a specialised supplier. Looks like a couple of local shops that had closed and been taken over on a short lease sort of thing.

Wanted some brass nuts for the exhaust manifold on the old Rover and they had them in stock - and also a choice of the same in stainless steel.

I've got a large motor factor close as well as the usual Halfords and other car accessory places and non could supply what I wanted.
