Fridge Problem

I have an issue with my fridge. It is a fridge freezer combined that is not frost free. I defrosted it a few months ago, and that is now fine. However at the back of the inside of the fridge is a drain hole just above the bottom shelf, which fills up every so often and then leaks on to the base of the fridge underneath the veggie draws. There is a little plug sitting in this drain hole which makes no difference at all. I dont have it plugged in.

Can anyone tell me the problem please and how I rectify it? I am fed up of clearing up the water every few weeks.

What does your instruction book say?

It should perhaps drain out to a tray at the back of the fridge where it can evaporate. If it doesn't then it sounds blocked. You could try poking something down it... but not too violently. Got any pipecleaners?

Thanks for your reply. I am one of these silly people who dont keep the instruction boolets. I didnt even know there was a tray behind. Where is it likely to be located?

The tray will be on the compressor (which is nice and warm, and hence good for getting rid of the water). But this doesn't really matter - you don't need to get to it.

Some fridges come with a little pokey thing to stick down the hole and clean it. If you don't have one, just carefully stick something else in the hole, and waggle it about to clean it. Pipecleaner is a good choice, knife is probably a bad choice. Piece of wire?

I had a fridge like that and the same problem. The drain hole was blocked with food particles so I got a bit of thin wire and poked it down the drain hole and it cleared the blockage. Water is supposed to go down the hole and out on to a small tray where it evaporates naturally.If you look behind the fridge at the bottom you should see it. Hope this helps. Borosteve.

I had a fridge/freezer like this many years ago. The only problem with poking the pipe with anything that is remotely sharp is the fact that if the pipe goes through the freezer insulation and if pierced will leak water into it and end up freezing as mine did.

So whatever you do, do not use anything that might pierce the pipe.

Also a good place for "things" to grow. Inevitably bits of food go down the pipe and there are all manner of air borne spores etc.
