What's the regular temperature for a fridge & for a freezer

I currently have 5 & -20 respectively

.

perfect. -18 is standard, but some machines use -20 or -21.

Bosch recommend 4 and -18

And well they might ;-). I've got a posh Bosch fridge and at the lowest setting (2C according to the switch) it maintains about 2C at the bottom and 7C at the top. A superb storage design, the compressor rarely seems to kick in - but is this temperature difference typical?

The separate Bosch freezer stays at about -30C - that's at the default mid-setting, and the temperature is pretty even throughout.

Desirable I would have thought. You want 7C at the top for chilled but not refrigerated foods (and drinks) and 2C at the bottom for high risk foods.

IIRC the recommended maximum for a fridge is 8C and a freezer -18C setting them lower wastes energy and contributes to GW according to some. It certainly costs more to run.
