The UT210E clamp meter I have has a 2A DC FS range with a 1mA LSD. The quoted accuracy on that range is +/-2% +3 counts

That sounds damn good compared to the specs on one I was looking at yesterday.

I don't think they're quite a match for a multimeter. Typically a bit more sloppy than a multimeter.

But for a leakage problem, you just want an order-of-magnitude indication. Is it 20mA or 3.4 amps ? That kind of thing. When checking for leakage on my car, the 380947 is relatively useless. I think I was in the 20mA vicinity, as I could see a one digit shift (1 part in 4000) when checking the car for leakage. The reading wandered a bit. The 380947 really needs another DC range.

If you check with Wiki, you may find that a DC solenoid isn't a transformer.

A givaway is inspecting the third cable, should one be fitted. If its labelled as ground, this allows rhe more astute to realise that with only two wires to bung the mA up, it aint going to transform anything.
