Eufy Wireless CCTV

A friend was asking me about the S40 setup he was thinking of buying I thought it a little expensive at nealy £600 for 3 cameras and it had no reviews (not even fake ones)

But tehre are some reviews on amazon for eufy.

I'd probabbly prefer this one even though it;s battery powered.

Trustpilot reviews indicate stay well clear:

Battery charge retention seems to be an issue, Eufy claim 120 days between charging, users say more like 30 days.

Wi-fi connection problems seem to be an issue too.

Forget wireless and also avoid any cameras that have "night vision" because it's usually done by infrared LEDs and the faces of people just turn into unrecognisable white blobs.

I went for a HikVision Network Video Recorder with PoE ColorVu cameras that are capable of full colour recording, even at night.

Have played with a Eufy indoor PTZ camera.

It has to be connected to the internet (and I assume Eufy servers) to work, so at some point it will stop working when Eufy stop supporting it.

The on-board storage is 'encrypted' and only accessible via their app, so again will stop working at some time, either when the app is not updated or when your mobile etc doesn't support an old app. Viewing by web browser is live streaming only with reduced functionality.

If you possibly can go for a proper, standard, ONVIF compliant PoE system then I would. Likely to prove better value long term.

I say wrong on both counts.

WiFi is fine provided the area is covered by your wifi and there aren;t many cameras that don;t have "night vision" which is Infa Red or there's full colour night vision which basically means a whiye light is used which can be a problem if yuo have neighbours or like me yuo want to watch foxes or other wildlife without them knowing.

That can be a problem.

If you kept the content to fairly short periods, you could probably do it on one of the free versions of a cloud system. Brian

I have had x4 HikVision CCTV cameras up for years now, and set to record video to my NAS drive

How good are the cameras at showing car number plates readably ?

How good is the software at only triggering an alarm or mark in the recording on movement in a subset of what the camera can see ?

I need to be able to have the cameras inside looking outside to reduce the risk of the not cheap camera being stolen or deliberately damaged.

I realise that HikVision is top notch hardware and software and are happy to pay more for the best capability.

The system I am looking at does not connect to anything other than than their Home Base3 So they have moved on in design.

I want something that is easy set-up and does not require Clid storage or subscription.

First and foremost I want a video doorbell.

Searched on-line and the Eufy Duo wins in most reviews .... I had no heard of Eufy until then.

Have to do some more searching, the youtube reviews do show them as performing well and very easy set up.
