Nothing, but it is easy to fool the customer by throwing the object being weighed onto the scales so that the momentum gives a much higher reading, making it possible to overweigh and overcharge.
Ha yes, I saw that done once as a kid. The butcher decided he was going to be Mr. Cheerful and bounced around the shop, all smiles. He'd package up the bacon for the old dear, throw it on the scales as you describe, then charge according to the high point the scales' pointer reached. At least one old dear can't have been fooled, as he was back to being Mr. Grumpy next time I went in.
