I doubt there are many updated drivers out there for a driver updater to find.

I would be careful of updating drivers unless you are having a specific issue. If it aint broke..................

I think there must be a problem. Flash will not load currently... assumed Firefox issue. Norton regularly shuts down saying there is a problem.

However I clicked on a video link in a respected forum and it took me to a driver updater site. Running a check purported to find several problems but the *terms of use* included a lifetime credit card payment so I dumped it.

Your system is infected. Just do an antivirus/malware scan.

Your first and major problem could well be Norton. I'd never let that or McAfee anywhere near one on my computers. Will the current version of Flask work with XP ?

Most of the driver companies want money. If you know what you want, try the manufacturers site first, then a users forum. As you sad, giving a CC to an unknown site is asking for trouble.

Yes. Years sub $29.95

Tried running the driver check bit and it failed on *application error*. I had not turned off the firewall so may try again.

The free version of Malwarebytes will not run on this m/c. Maybe because I have used it before and my 30 days have expired:-(

Tim you really need to get to the bottom of what is causing this, just updating drivers could lead to further misery. I would suggest a forum that is run by experts (FREE) and will analyse your PC and get to the cause. It is done online and they will take you through everything step by step. They do the analysis and just provide you with instructions to correct in laymans terms. They will get you to run diagnostics for them to look at. It can take a few days as it maybe someone helping you in a different time zone. I have used them several times over the years with 100% success. Let me know if you want further details.

The free version of Malwarebytes does NOT have a time limit, perhaps what you have done is download the full version of MB which has a free trial of thirty days .

Note the OPTION of installing a trial version.

MB are a bit disingenuous in that it is very difficult (not impossible it is just that they would prefer people download the paid for version) to get the free version from their site hence the cnet download.

Even on that site be careful of what you actually click (download now rather than buy now).

XP is NOT a supported O/S any longer (unless you have one of these multi million pound support contracts[NHS, MOD etc]). You may find that up to date drivers for it are as rare as rocking horse droppings . Note this does not mean XP no longer works AS A STANDALONE it is just not a good idea to have it connect to the 'net.

but make sure that you read and follow the instructions in the "READ & RUN ME FIRST" locked post near the top of the list before you start.

The bottom line here is *get a man in* or sort out the W7 job gathering dust on my desk.

I'll try that when I have time and come back if I need more advice. Meanwhile XP is fine for mail, newsgroups and most sites.

Personally, I'd stay a long way away from any of them, unless your PC's manufacturer has a specific tool.

At 10GB for the full version, it's certainly big enough. :-)
