Draper Magnum Compact workmate review.

FYI bought one of the Compact MCWB950 models a week ago & having used it in anger several times I'm very impressed indeed.

initial things I like, it folds down to a very flat profile so I can get it in the van without taking up too much space & its very, very solid & sturdy. Reckoned to hold 200 kg. Big table size around 24 x 18".

Huge clamping capacity, holds a 6 x 2 between the jaws, would hold nearly

18" with the plastic blocks - which are unusual in that they fit into grooves in the surface rather than holes. Different clamp system, the front jaw is fixed, the rear jaw slides freely until it reaches the workpiece, then half a turn on the handles clamps it. Very fast to use.

You can also lock the rear jaw. Useful because the inner faces of the jaws are aluminium channels which can be used to guide a circular saw or router and there is an 'underclamp' facility so you can cross cut panels up to around 20" wide.

Only downside is its a bit heavy to carry and not that cheap. Got mine from Tooled Up for £35 + £5 delivery.

Great piece of equipment IMO.
