DIN rail on a CU

I am just curious. Can the 100A switch be fitted at either end of the rail? Or anywhere along the rail?

if you are changing a consumer unit and the common earth and neutral bars are on the bottom of the old unit with the wires from the circuits coming in the bottom.

If the new CU has the bar on the top, can some be moved to the bottom, as the wires would be too short?

Sometimes it can be fitted at wither end - it depends on the design of the live bus bar. I have not looked inside a GE CU, so don't know with this particular one.

While the switch itself will fit in any position on the rail, placing it in the is not usually supported unless its a split load CU (where you have two switching devices, and each has its own live bus bar).

Then you need to extend the wires (or position the new CU a bit lower so the existing ones reach).

Not usually.

What is the best way of extending the wires from the inside of bottom of the CU to the top of the CU? Is is best to have them all go into a terminal strip and then extend from the strip to the terminal strip provided on the CU?

Depends on how may are too short. If its all of them, then a solution like that used by Andy G here:

neat and effective with a set of din rail mounted terminals in a separate enclosure. If you have not got the space for that, or only need extend a few, then crimp on extensions as required using the same size of wire as the existing circuit.
