If we didnt pay taxes, we could simply pay for all the above ourselves, minus the extra commission the government takes for acting as a middle man.
For all but the dole bound, it would be a net saving.
I bet you see an outside shot of the shop... and after transmission there will be posters in the window "as seen on...". The benefit to the shop owner isn't with the whole national TV audience but the locals.
