Converting VW van - is chassis a reliable earth for site mains feed?

My neighbour (an electrical contractor) is converting his van into a mobile home. He's put in multiplt leisure batteries, led lights,

2000W inverter , etc. Etc. His earth just clamps to the chassis and he has been told that he doesn't need an earth rod. When he plugs into a site mains feed, can he really rely on its earth?

Yes, it is fine to just plug into what is called an Electric Hook UP EHU, relying upon the EHU being protected by an RCD/RCBO at the supply end and another in the van itself.

That is normal.

If you visit Europe, it can be worth carrying a test plug and short lead which swaps the L& N as some sites cross them for convenience, but it isn’t essential. Many motorhomers / caravanners don’t bother / aren’t aware of the matter.
