The 3-lever lock on my shed came from the front door in 1991; it had been originally fitted when the house was built in c1950, so now ~65 yo. It's been stripped, cleaned and greased a couple of times and works perfectly.

Any lubricant including graphite 'could' do that but the carrier in WD40 would wash out the grit.

First removing brick dust by painstakingly washing out the lock --perhaps using disassembly, lacquer thinner, white spirit, ultrasound, an old toothbrush-- and then re-lubricating with a mixture of graphite plus fired clay to save a bit on buying pure graphite seems a bit extreme.

Thanks, at last someone noticed! I suppose I have an advantage as having been a professional tribologist for 45 years, generally specialising in mechanical systems.
