Chinese fuses

Wouldn't surprise me. I cracked open one of those fuses today. It *was* sand-filled but the wire inside was *much* thicker than some loose 5A fusewire I had left over from an old Woolworths cardboard bobbin of 3 different ratings of fusewire from back in the day. I didn't even need to mic it up as it was so easy to see with the naked eye. But if the composition of the wires is different then that probably makes the discovery of little or no value.

Probably - the wire could have been a different alloy. Or it might have a dob of another alloy in the middle that "melts" through at a certain temperature. It may be thicker just because the silica fill reduces cooling so it heats up quicker.

There's a lot of clever stuff goes on in making the humble wire fuse :)

My chinese E12 6W candle lamps are OK. I have yet to have a failure of the Poundland 3W ones which are in constant use. Agreed neither of these are corncob. One is flower petal, the other is pyramid.

Just to say I saw the same fake Bussmann fuses on sale in Wilkinson's today (their own-name brand packaged on a white cardboard backing). Even down to the missing ASTA symbol and with the dimples in the badly- fitting end caps.

In chine they bel;ieve that if yuo go to a cheap and s***ty food outlet expect food posening, where here in the UK we have H&S to tell us what we should know from observation i/.e cheap s*it places are likely to serve cheap s*it food. So there;s no real H&S for food you have to think for yuorself when eating out, something perhaps most brits just aren't used to. gutter oil, fake eggs, fake rice.....

and apparently Australia has just done a trade deal with china allowing them to ship in their own foods without having to be labled product of china.

And the chinese are buying up vast areas of Australian farmland and bringing it's it's own workers because they don't have to go through teh same immigration rules because they are working on a chinese farm not an australian owned farm. Whether wodeny knows more is anyones guess but my friend planing on coming back to the uk in 5 years.

I would have a word with trading standards in a case like that...

Sadly ye may find TS also totally uninterested. Things like this cost money investigating that can only be recovered from prosecutions that go somewhere on hard evidence, like a death or fire etc....

Our local bunch have no real public interface, not even a web site, to deal with tip-offs. My last attempt at doing my public service hit a bit of a brick wall with them.
