short version New battery Radio dead - 'Code' Phone up dealers, give details "Your code is 3211" "I need a 5 digit code " "Then its the last 5 digits of the serial number of the unit- you need to remove it " "How? "Can't help."



.....google a bit and it suggets that this unit can be removed with 'keys' shoved in slots on its face

WTF keys do I need and where can I get them or make them? And how do they work?



I cut some triangluar stuff out of a baked bean can but it doesnt seem to work

Maybe bits of a rusty old hacksaw blade would work on that model of stereo?

However if it really is the last five digits of the serial on the back of the unit then it's not much of a deterrent to a thief is it?

exactly my reaction, also if I phone up dealer and they give them away fr free its not that secure either

It wasn't meant to be a secure fixing - just a universal fixing allowing you to change your radio without hacking the dashboard to pieces.

You can generally manage with a couple of jeweller's screwdrivers. But last time I looked Halfords sell the real thing.

It's the digital key that's supposed to be a security device, not the bent coat hanger you need to remove it from the dash.
