Bulge in mains water pipe?

Jun 25, 2007 1 Replies

I notice that where the rising main enters my house, there is a large bulge in the pipe. I'm sure the pipe is copper and not lead.

Is this bulge there on purpose? If so, what is it's function?

Generally a large bulge is where there is a lead to lead or lead to copper joint in the pipe.
