've always found these stately home windows down to the ground strange - they are practically doors. They certainly are to little children or midgets ! Anyone know how this practice evolved ? Simon.big old houses - windows down to the ground

Dont really know but maybe because they own all the ground as far as the eye can see it is nice to look at it from every window.They dont need the privacy. A bit like having patio doors onto your back garden.
