Bathroom Lamp Bowl

Day before yesterday, I was in the bedroom and partner was downstairs, Suddenly a loud crash and bang. The glass bowl of the bathroom ceiling fitting had spontaneously fallen and smashed. No idea why - the screws look to be in the right places, there wasn't much wind, and no-one was there to do anything.

Now we need a replacement. At the moment, we just want a new bowl. But damned if we can find one. It was a cheap fitting - about 180mm across the metal plate that is still there. (Various ideas are going through our heads for the future. It isn't that we won't go for something nicer/better - just not right now.)

And we have already checked out the possible complete replacements in the obvious shops (Homebase, B&Q, John Lewis locally and quite a few internet sites such as TLC, specialist lighting companies, Ikea, and so on.). Still not found anything suitably cheap and simple.

Any suggestions?

Cheap bowl lights arent hard to find. Dont forget argos. Chance of finding just a bowl is very low, unless you've got a lot of time on your hands and dont mind paying for the privilege.

Glass bowls need the retaining screws to be a bit loose, otherwise thermal movement can shatter them. Some have thin enough metalwork that it can bend easily, making looseness unnecessary.

If you're into saving energy, fit a bowl with 2 bulbholders and a dual switch.

Must have the WC in a separate room then? ;-)

You're not going to find one, simple as. Nobody is going to stock parts for cheap light fittings.

Buy a new fitting & replace the old one - it will be cheaper & easier.

Cheap bowls that are suitable for bathroom use are a lot harder to find than I expected! We didn't forget Argos (though Homebase usually has pretty much the same stock these days).

Many of the ones we have located are nit able to take a 100W lamp.

any 60w fitting can take a 100w lamp. Sleeve the cable ends with fibreglass though.
